There is a very unpleasant voice that says "you've got x mail". Please could
somebody tell me how to turn it off! Thanks K

That is not a native Outlook feature. Toshiba for instance ships their
laptops with an add-in that provides that feature.

I did not have this feature until I installed Office 2003. Although it is a
Toshiba, it wasn't a problem with an earlier version of Office. Any other
ideas?  Thanks KB

Did you consider that it does this (Toshiba) with OL 2003 and not with previous versions of Outlook. Check with Toshiba

If I go into the sounds and audio in the control panel, it provides the
various microsoft program functions with sounds attached to them.
Unfortunately there is nothing that is linked to this rather horrible voice
announcing mail. Any other thoughts? K

Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the Toshiba utility causing this.

It can be found under Toshiba Utilities.  Remove it from there.
