Mark sent messages as read

I have turned off the save sent items option, and I use rules in Outlook 2003
to organise my sent items, but they are marked as read after being moved. I
have downloaded the custom action MarkRead from
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/custom.htm as suggested in an old post, but
the read-me file says this is for use with MS Exchange. I'm not sure what
Exchange is. Does anyone know if markread will also work without Exchange? --

Your post is confusing to me (of course, it is pretty late!).  You say that
your messages are being read when moved by a rule, which implies that is not
what you want...but then you are asking about using an add-in to
automatically mark messages as read.  If they're already being marked as
read, why do you need the add-in?  In any event, I don't think there is
anything you can do about this (unless there is some other code you can use
-- you'd need to ask in an Outlook programming newsgroup); sent items are
never marked as unread by default.

FYI, custom Actions don't work in Outlook 2002 so I doubt they work in later
versions either...regardless of whether or not you are connecting to Exchange
Server (a mail server/collaboration tool for corporations).

I can see why you are confused now I have re-read my post!
What I am trying to do is use rules to put my sent emails in different
folders depending on the recipient. To do this I turned off the save sent
items option, and then used the rules to place a copy in the appropriate
folder after sending. (There was no option to MOVE the msg). The copy of the
sent item is marked as being UNREAD (not read, as I said previously). I saw
on another post somewhere that I could use the MarkRead add-in, so I
downloaded it, but am not sure if it will work without Exchange, so I didn't
install it in case I ended up in a worse mess than I am already in.
If you know of any other way I can force these messages to be marked as read
then I would very grateful.
Apologies for the previous garbled post. Hope this one is clearer.

I doubt that there is any way to do that except maybe by using some other
kind of code. You might want to ask in one of the Outlook programming
newsgroups...they should be able to tell you whether or not it's possible and
perhaps give you the code you need.
