I have now been having this problem for days and have tried everything and
then some but no luck.  I cannot get any work done because of this and am
desperate!  I am using 3G data card, Vodacom South Africa. My server ports -
Incoming 110, Outgoing 25.  I haven't touched any of these settings, but the
past week or so Windows has been doing automatic updates and I'm sure this
total headache started as soon as I  "installed" the new updates!  Before
that everything was just working dandy for months!  Please help.

If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration and try again.

Thanks for your help.  Have tried your suggestion with no luck. I think it is
an ISP problem " Transparent Proxying" issue.  Will contact Vodacom SA again
to see whether they can give me answers.

It could be that the outgoing SMTP server is looking for authentication from
you. When you set up your account in Outlook, did you specify your password
for the SMTP server as well as your POP3 server?

It could also be that if you have antivirus set up to scan incoming/outgoing
mail that it's preventing you from connecting. You don't need to have AV
scan incoming and outgoing mail, you can turn that off. It won't compromise
your security since your real time scanner will take care of you.

Thanks for your help.  I did disable my virus protection software, but no
luck.  I think this is a "Transparent Proxying" problem from my ISP - Vodacom
SA.  I'm going to contact them again.
