Delay in sending mail

I recently moved to Outlook 2007 from 2003. However every mail irrespective
of size takes atleast 5 mins to clear from the outbox.

Do you have "Send immediately when connected" configured in Tools->
Options-> tab Mail Setup?

Yes "Send immediately when connected" is configured.
