Contacts sort order won't stick...?

Howdy,

I run OL2002, under XP pro.

I use Contacts as my address book, and want names to display
as Smith, Tom, rather than Tom Smith.

I went to:

Tools | Options | Contact Options |

and set both "Order for new names" and "File as" order to
Last, First.

I backed out, exited Outlook, re-launched, but still find
that when I create a new message, my contacts display in
First Last order rather than Last, First, that I need.

Why might I be failing to get the requested order to stick?

Sincere thanks,

Because those aren't the setting you use to sort the address book. The
settings you use have been posted here countless times. Did you read any of
the posts here?
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
Restart Outlook.
