Rely heavily on Outlook 2000, did not realize support so hard to find. Need
to be able to at least start up and recover seven years of contacts, etc. Is
there a standalone Outlook without buying the whole 'suite'?

All your email, Contacts etc should be in one or more .PST files. They can
opened with any version of Outlook provided they are not corrupt.
Yes, you can buy stand-alone versions of Outlook. It might be easier to try
and fix what you have but we need more info than just "crashed".

I will add info later this afternoon. I am not in front of the unit now. I
did try to restore to an earlier date this past week and that did not help.

This is what I find:
Problem caused by Microsoft Office 2000: consider upgrading

The problem was caused by Microsoft Office 2000, which was created by
Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft Office 2000 is in its "Extended Support"
phase. This phase of support for Microsoft Office 2000 began on 1-Jul-04.
Only security-related solutions are created by Microsoft for this version of
Microsoft Office.

Recommendation

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Consider upgrading to the latest version of Microsoft Office to receive full
support. Go online to learn how to upgrade.

We also recommend that you periodically go to the Office Update website.
This will help to ensure that your computer stays updated with the latest
updates to Microsoft Office.

More information

Solution available
No.

What does this error mean?
An unknown error caused Microsoft Office 2000 to crash. This error might
continue to cause Microsoft Office 2000 to crash.

Will a solution to this problem be available in the future?
No. Microsoft Office 2000 is now in its "Extended Support" phase. This
phase of support for Microsoft Office 2000 began on 1-Jul-04. Only
security-related solutions are created by Microsoft for this version of
Microsoft Office.

How long can I use Microsoft Office 2000?
You can continue to use Microsoft Office 2000. The Microsoft Support
Lifecycle policy has no effect on how long you can use a product. The Support

for products.

See if it will run in Safe mode
Outlook.exe /safe
in the Run box. You might need the full path to Outlook. If that works try
disabling all add-ins and try normally.

Tried the suggestion - the Outlook box shows in reducedsize and then goes to
(not responding). I am not sure what to do next.

It looks like your .pst file is corrupt. It happens when it reaches a
size close to 2Gb.
Perform the following:
- Find the .pst file.
- Find SCANPST.EXE and run it.
- Point to the .pst file that you found earlier when prompted.
- This will scan the .pst file and sometimes fix the corruption. Note
that depending on the size, it may run for a long time.
I say "sometimes" because it doesn't work most of the time, but that's
the only option available to you at this time.
The data in the .pst file, even if corrupt, can be recovered using
exmerge.exe utility, but you need a full Exchange environment to do
that. Not at home I'm afraid.

Try with a new profile via the mail icon in Control Panel as a test. If that
works you can suspect a corrupt profile or damaged PST file.
I'm assuming here that Outlook 2000 is in Corporate/Workgroup mode.

Totally lost. No idea wwwwwh any of this is supposed to work. /safe doesn't
work, can't seem to find a .pst file, etc.

Thanks for attempting to help. It may work IF I could get Outlook to start.
Don't have the time anymore to just sit and mess with it.

No sweat.
With the lack of Support now for Outlook 2000 and update to a later version
might be in order. Just keep in mind that you might still carry over this
issue. At least you'd be eligible for support for it.
