6 day old computer: Every time I open Outlook, after the first 48 hours of
opns, I receive an error message: "A data file did not close properly the
last time it was used and is being checked for problems. Performance might
be affected while check is in progress." Despite running diagnostics, I
cannot find the problem, and problems in speed of access, sending docs, etc.
remain, despite archiving, removing plug-ins and multiple Diagnostics. The
first two days this ran like lightning -- I want that back. Running an
Insprion 1501 w/ 2 Gigs. No other major applications. Heck message boards
and am not running ANY of the standard problem causes, e.g. Palm interface,
etc.

* Run the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) against your *.PST files.
* If you have antivirus software installed, exclude *.PST files from
real-time scanning (this will not interfere with their POP3/SMTP protection)
* If your laptop came with MediaDirect (Cyberlink), look for/disable the
Cyberlink Outlook addin.

I have run the Scanpst.exe on 3 of the 4 files. Errors were found and
corrected. When I seek to run the 4th file, I get the following error
message: An error has occurred which caused the scan to be stopped. No
changes have been made to the scanned file. Have tried rebooting the
computer, to no avail. The antivirus software does exclude .PST files.
There was no MediaDirect installed. The original message: "A data file...
etc." still pops up every time I open Outlook. AND every time I open
Outlook, it takes longer to load. This time, almost 5 minutes...

Go thru the mail applet in the control panel (data files option) and see if
that 4th pst file is listed. If it is, remove it. Outside of that, if the
inbox repair tool can't deal with the 4th pst file, then I know of no other
tool that can work with it.
