How can I set up my email account so I get a very visible notifier to pop up
on the screen and stay on the screen until I open the incoming message?

You should say what version of Office's Outlook. You can get a notice
(envelope) in your Notification Area of the taskbar with a small preview
window. Tools, Options, email options, Advanced email Options. The envelope
icon will stay until you open the mail. You can also set up a sound in
Control Panel, Sounds.
