Check and change the settings in Tools, options, Mail Format, Fonts.

Thanks, but I had already tried to do this.
Originally all fonts were set to Arial and this didn't hence my posting the
question.
I've even repeated the actions using comic sans and still the same thing
happens.
Any other suggestions?

Did you ever get an answer to this question? I am having the same problem
