I have .pst files saved to a cd that I'd like to be able to import to either
Outlook Express or Excel.  I have searched and can't find any information
about how to convert them to .txt (to import them to Outlook Express) The
.pst files include messages and contacts, and while I'd like to have the
messages, it's the contacts that are particularly important.  Is there any
way to do this?

You cannot, natively, Outlook needs to be installed, configured & connected
to this pst on your HD before you can do anything with it.

Pst files should never be imported in Outlook anyway. It can corrupt the
file. Copy the pst file to your hard drive and use File, Open on the OL menu
to access it in Outlook. You cannot convert pst files to text files to use in
Outlook Express. You can import messages, address books and settings from
within OE, but OL must be on the same computer. You can export your contacts
to a csv file that can be imported in OE without having Outlook installed.

If copied from cd to hd you first would need to turn off the read only
attribute (file properties, of pst)

The pst has to be connected to OL before you can export to a csv file
