I need to delete emails without them expanding first.

I have hundreds of emails that pile up pretty quickly in my "Deleted Items"
folder.

Each one selected to be deleted expands to show part of the message before
it confirms whether I want to delete it or not.  This is extremely slow and
annoying when I have many dozens of emails that I need to delete at one time.

Outlook slowly expands each one until they are all expanded before it asks
for confirmation on the deletion of the messages.

Surely there is a way to turn that off so that the messages are immediately
deleted instead of having to wait for each one to expand.
