Is there a way to directly click through from an email to the calender and
set an appt, with a copy of the email in the body of the calender appt
notice.

yes - drag the email to the Calendar and release it (try left and right
draging as there are many options)

Alternatively, make the new appointment and use Insert Item to insert the
email that relates.
