When I send emails with attachments, the people I send them to get numerous
copies of the same email.  They are not always able to open the attachments
and when they can open it, the attachment  is unreadable. Does anyone have
any idea where I can start to fix this?

If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.

I'm not sure if the virus scanner I have does that but I'll try, I currently
use Windows Live One Care.

By default most, if not all of them, do that.
