Hi,
I am running Outlook 2003 and developed a problem today that I cannot figure
out.
When I select Send/Receive Outlook indicates that it is attempting to send 1
of 3 messages. It is unable to send those messages and then a message appears
indicating a problem sending messages. If I create a test email to send,
Outlook successfully sends that message however the other three messages that
it indicates it is trying to send are not sent.
When I look in the Outbox folder to see what it is trying to send the folder
is empty. I have shut down Outlook and restarted the computer to try and
clear out whatever might be in the queue however the problem resurfaces.
Any idea on what is happening and how I can clean up the problem?
Thanks.

Sounds like it's a stuck read receipt:

Give that a try. Let me know how if it works out for you or not.

Kathleen,
That solved my problem! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my
posting.

A possible reason might be that you opened mails with a "read notification"
while you were offline. Obviously Outlook can then not send the notification
back but waits until the next time you get online. Those messages do not
appear in your Outbox.
