I am currently running Outlook 2007 and Exchange.  When I select
recipients for an email, I open Outlook address book>contacts which
lists my contacts in alpha order, however some are first name, last
name and others are reversed.  As a result, I have to search
recipients a number of ways to get their address.

This is not a function of contact "file as" as I thought. Any thoughts
on remedying this ?

Support your conclusion that this is not a function of the "File As..."
field. State how you set the sort order for the Outlook Address Book view.
State the source folder for address book view.
