Shift + Select - Delete
Why are you storing msgs in the deleted folder?
very bad idea

You didn't provide any configuration information for us to work with so your
guess is as good as any.
Either way;
There is no way that this could happen automatically as Outlook doesn't have
a "Restore all" function. It does have a "Empty Deleted Items Folder"
function which I think you should have used before but never did.
My guess; you leave a copy of your messages on the server and somehow
managed to re-download all your mail that was still there. A restore from
backup is of course the easiest way to restore.

Roady,
I don't know what kind of configuration info you need but it is Outlook, XP.
It didn't restore all my deleted files, just some of them and I have no idea
how I would have done that. I leave them in my "deleted folder" because
occassionally I need to go back and look at something. I guess I could go
through and get rid of those that I'm sure I'll never need and be more
diligent about that in the future. But this has never happened before so I
never thought about it.

Assuming you're using a pst-file the only way to restore is restoring from
backup if you made any.
If you keep items because you might need them in the future they shouldn't
belong in the Deleted Items folder. Otherwise, with a bit of luck I could
keep my tax papers in the trash can as well ;-)

Roady,
Funny!! I went ahead and deleted all those messages that snuck back into my
inbox. Then I deleted all the messages in the "Deleted" box. A new
beginning:) I guess I'll never know how they did it but it doesn't matter now
since they are gone now. Thanks for all your thoughts everyone.
