I run Vista Business and MS Office 2007 with McAffee on a Dell Vostro. Email
has been running without problems for a few months. Over the last 2 days I
have been having problems with sending email. Incoming mail ok.

Error message is 0x800CCC78 -cannot send the message. Verify the email
addressin your account properties. The server responded 553: address not
verified.

In response to these error codes I have tried several things:
-Rebooted
-Checked all account settings(Authentication is set)
-Ran repair option in Account Settings
-Ran McAfee virus checker and disc cleaner including registry cleaner
-Ran disc cleaanup
-Ran defrag
-Tried changing SMTP TCP port from 25 to 587 and 465
-Did system restore
-Ran Outlook Office Diagnostics
-Checked with ISP that server ok

I have run out of ideas! Any suggestions?

Disable McAfee's integration with Outlook.
Is the ISP of your SMTP server the same as providing you Internet access?

Thanks for suggestion but disconnected McAfee from Outlook and problem still
there.
Outgoing server ISP different from that providing Internet access (BT
Broadband).
I have 2 accounts - 1 btinternet address and other for business address
(hosted by my web designer). I can still send via the btinternet account (so
not a disaster but not professional!). All account settings are still as they
were when everything was working well.

Apparently your web designer has modified the security settings on their
server. Contact them if remotely using their SMTP server is still supported
or simply configure the SMTP account of BT on your other account as well.

Hi annegibb

If you are still struggling with this issue then you are not alone- there
are lots of us who have been affected by this BT cock-up.
BT do not have any idea how to solve the problem - they just keep blaming
the users- but there is an explanation and solution here:

It is tricky and you need to use the additional info in the link shown on
the page. But as you will see from the expressions of gratitude in the
comments, it does work.
