Shortcut message can not be opend

if i place a old message as a shortcut in a new message te recipient cannot
open the shortcut. we use outlook 2003 sp3.

Does anybody know why that is ?

Because a shortcut is not the message, it's just a link to the message, and
the recipient cannot get to the message on your computer.
