email removed from inbox when reply

Outlook 2000

When I reply to an email the original email is being removed from my inbox.  
I have tried every view I can think of but the original email is no longer in
the inbox.  

What can be set to do this other than the rules wizard which I know was not
set.

Do you have a filter on your mailbox?  It might be set to show only new
messages and hides the ones that are read.

Click View>Current View.  What view is checked?
