Outlook stripping plain text from mixed RTF/plain email

One of our friends received a RTF format email, which he then
forwarded to me, adding a comment to the top of the forwarded email,
in the body.

When I received the email, his comments were missing - just the RTF
body of the forwarded email. When I checked the same email on my web
mail, his comments were there - so it looks like Outlook has removed
his text.

His emails usually come through as plain text, so I'm assuming that
the top part was plain text, then switched to RTF, which confused
Outlook.

I'm running Outlook 2003

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

James

One thing which might be relevant is that we're using Word as our
editor in Outlook.
