I can't get rid of my old PST file and move to a new one

I have changed jobs.
I have archived my old Outlook 2007 data and now want to open a CLEAN NEW PST.
This is proving impossible.
The old 'default Exchange' file has 'remove' greyed out - even though I have
added a new PST and set it to default.
Just to try and fool the system, I have gone as far as copying out the old
files to a different folder - at which point Outlook freaks and refuses to
start.

This seems NUTZ !

How does anyone close one PST and open a new one ?

BTW: After Outlook refused to open at all - I ran the Office diagnostics -
which happily reported that there was no problem...   what kind of idiot was
in charge of checking if the diagnostics routine works - when it gives a
'clean bill of health' to a product that won't start ?!?!?

When you removed the PST file and Outlook complained, did you then create a
new profile for Outlook to use using the mail applet in the Control Panel?

Thanks for the reply - the answer is 'no' I didn't create a new profile...

...but I found a solution in a similar area

When you 'were using' a proper Exchange set up - and decide to move to
something else (in my case - POP3), then changing the default account in
Outlook is going to be ignored by Microsoft's star programming team

Instead, you need to switch it in the Control Panel

All very bizarre and counter intuitive...

...but I guess everyone needs to find cool ways to sell $200 support calls -
even multi-billionaires :~)

How can you possibly open a *new* PST file that does not exist? You have
to create it first: File | New | Outlook Data File.
