I am not sure if this is a Office or Windows problem.
My XP system is running on Office2003 had been trying to do this update for
the last month or so. It kept updating- something it says the update is
installed, other times it says there is an error. Even when it said the
update was sucessful and the system did its updating after closedown, I kept
getting the screen that shows that an update will be perform when I shutdown
the computer.
Can someon please help to sjow how to either complete this update or remove
vestiges of this update totally from my system so that I do not get the
annoying attempts to update as well as to install during shutdown?
Thanks.

Not clear what "it" is, trying to update - AutoUpdate, Microsoft Update,
or Office Update?

Try the update from http://www.update.microsoft.com/ and after it fails
again, get the error code from the 'Review your update history' option -
click on the red 'Failed' icon to get the error code.

B.t.w. this *is* a Windows problem, but since it affects an update for
Outlook, we may as well look at it here.
