Not sure what you mean. We use comcast to get on-line and use comcast,
advanced access and axsen as webmail hosts.

Message says (0x80042109) Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (smtp)
e-mail server.

I have a verizon internet card for my laptop. I am able to send via Outlook
when I log into the verizon network. so it must be something with the
linksys.

So why would you pick the Outlook newsgroup then for point of
troubleshooting and not Linksys? Apparently there is noting wrong with your
Outlook configuration.
Resetting your Wireless device is the first step of troubleshooting this
issue.

That means what type of e-mail account did you define inside of Outlook?
POP, IMAP, Exchange, HTTP (Hotmail), what?

Do not summarize the error message. Do not truncate or paraphrase the
error message. Show the error message in its entirety. Copy-n-paste
the error message or transcribe it verbatim.

So to whom's e-mail service are you trying to connect when you are not
using Verizon as your ISP?

Or something with the Comcast network. Comcast will push a port 25 blocking
modem profile when they detect what they consider excessive SMTP activity to
port 25. I believe they have a 100 email per day limit; which is either 100
emails to 1 recipient each, or 1 email to 100 recipients. They count by
recipient ("RCPT" in SMTP slang). Their recommendation is to configure the
mail client (MS Outlook Express in your case) to use port 587 for outbound
email. I believe that they also require authentication to the server with
your full email address as the user name in that case.
If you *know* you were sending to more than 100 recipients in a day, you can
probably assume that your computer is safe from malware infection. But, if
you are certain that you were not sending such a volume of email, it is
advisable to do a thorough scan for malware. Ah, but I *am* overlooking the
third possibility, in your case: Insecure W-LAN. If you did not properly
secure your W-LAN, using WPA instead of WEP, your Internet connection could
have been hijacked by some passerby, and they could have impacted your
account SMTP volume by "borrowing" your Comcast SMTP server for their own
purpose.
