When I exit Outlook, the file does not actually close. When I open the
application again, it opens at the pont of attempted close. This presents a
problem since I have two Profiles. I am not permitted to chose the correct
profile since this screen is not presented. I must reboot the system to get
back to the actual start. Can anyone help with this?

If you bring up the task manager, Ctrl+Alt+Del and look in running processes
for outlook.exe, then terminate it. It will then open correctly, though
there maybe a warning re 'not correctly closed'
Then you can start to figure out why it is not closing; this can be caused
by comm addins, sync or fax software & anything else that is intergrating
with the OL data file
Your version of OL might also assist & whether its updated
