Does it work in any application, such as Notepad?  

If it doesn't, then you should really post to whatever newsgroup discusses
your Operating system.
If it does, then check Outlook (since this is an Outlook newsgroup).  If
it works there, then you should post to the Word newsgroup.  If it doesn't,
have you tried rebooting the system?
