Had exported outlook pst to portable hard drive to put on new laptop.  Midway
through, i accidently hit cancel.

Ever since then when i open outlook, i get same error message:
"Data file didn't close properly last time used and being checked for
problems.  Performance might be affected while checking.  Also, some
reminders may not work properly."

I have tried repairing with my Outlook CD but nothing changes.  I tried to
uninstall but then when i reinstall, because i didn't delete outlook.pst on c
drive (see path below), all my info was still in outlook when i reopened.
Got same error message and my account was still set up.  Not all reminders
are working either.

c:\user\user\appdata\local\microsoft\ outlook

How do i totally do a reinstall with all data removed or get rid of this
error message.  Not all my reminders work either????

you need to repair the pst with scanpst.exe.

It's usually best to copy the old pst, rather than export it, for use on the
new machine, especially if it was created by outlook 2003 (or 2007)

FYI= the email link i got from you responding wouldn't open in explorer??

FIrst of all, I did read many emails about this before posting questions.
Seems like it's common for you guys to say what to do but not HOW like:
"repair pst with scanpst.exe" with no further explanation?

from what i've read, i'm still not clear what the path is to do this so
please explain in detail.

2nd= what fixed this problem was:
start/run: outlook.exe /resetfolders

this got rid of the error message for future reference so i didn't need to
delete all reurring appointments in my calender by using scanpst.exe.

what does clean reminders do and what is correct path:
start/run: outlook.exe(space)/resetfolders/(space)cleanreminders

thanks

I didn't send any email link to you, so I have no idea why it would not open
in explorer. It's sent by the web service you use to access these
newsgroups.

Scanpst does not delete recurring appointments. It repairs the pst - which
is what happens when you get the 'didn't close properly' error.

reminders are usually fixed with the /cleanreminders switch, not the
/resetfolders switch, since it restores missing default folders. Although, I
guess if somehow the hidden reminders folder went missing, it would restore
it too.

the correct format for the cleanreminders switch is
outlook.exe /cleanreminders
You can't piggy back most of the switches.

ok....i've never used command lines .  I read the link on using comman lines
and typed in full command line:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe" (space)/
cleanreminders

and got error message:
comman line argument not valid.  Verify the switch you are using.

what is wrong here?

As far as my outlook error:
1.  An object couldn't be found. Problem reading 1 or more of your
reminders.  Some reminders may not appear.

2.  Data file didn't close properly last time used and being checked for
problems

i just spent over 60 minutes with microsoft outlook tech support.  We had to
export calendars, contacts, tasks, onenote.  all folders are already saved.
He just had me go to c:/programfiles/ microsoft/ office12/ scanpst/repair.
After running scan, errors still came up so we had to create new user profile.

That's what took so long.  I wasn't understanding that the corruption is in
the profile not in the outlook.pst folder.  we were able to import
outlook.pst folder into new outlook profile and everything worked
right......FINALLY

thought this might help you for future advise.

Please send me exact path though of how to clean reminders.
thanks.
