Need to store away some contacts.

Is there anything wrong/bad about making a new contact folder in archive.pst and storing them in there?

Dear Frankie,

you can create and use all kind of folders also in your "archive.pst".

If you do not want to delete the "old" contacts, you can move it (of course)
into an archive PST file with a "contact folder".

If you want to seperate the contacts in an own PST file. You could create a
contact.pst file, create a contact folder into this PST file, move your
items and then you have an own "seperate pst" only for your contacts.
