Viewing HTML messages in Outlook 2003- 1st HTML then plain text

Over the past couple of days, there have been HTML emails I've received that
are in HTML the 1st time I look at them.  Whenever I go back to that message,
they are converted to plain text and all the images are also turned into
links.  An example is an Evite invitation.  It comes thru perfectly at 1st.
Then the next time I view it, it's basically a bunch of links that don't
work.  There is also something at the top of hte message that says "extra
line breaks in this message were removed."

These are all emails going to my Inbox and they are not Junk Mail (I do have
Junk Mail come in where the pictures aren't automatically downloaded and I
would need to allow the pictures to be downloaded manually - what I'm
expereincing now is nothing like it)

I upgraded to AVG antivirus v8.0.1 the other day.  Other than that, nothing
has changed.  Any thoughts on how to fix the problem?

Thanks!

One more thing to note: this doesn't happen with all my emails.  For example,
I have an HTML email from LL Bean and InStyle and those are fine each and
every time I look at the message.

I'm noticing the problem with the Evite and emails that co-workers and
friends are sending via HTML (vs. Rich Text or Plain Text format).
