Iam using Office 03 and need to add about 2000 contacts for a Legal e-alert
email. So....... I need to find out how many contacts will outlook hold and
what kind of impact will it have on my exchange server.

You can have at least 65535 items in a folder so no problem there but your
mail server may not like an item with 2000 contacts in the To/CC/BCC
field(s).
See if any of the tools here will help:

A folder can hold about 64 thousand items. Sending to that many people at
one time, however, may be problematic. Best to use a mailmerge.

That I don't know, but mailmerge is still better, even if you can.

I have one distribution list that will work fine and one does not and comes
back with the error "No transport provider was available for delivery to
this recipient."
I can email the address individually and they all go through.
