Frightening corruption

At a very late stage in the editing of a major project, with many hours
behind me, the main document began to be corrupted!  Very alarming.

I use Word 2000. I found I could recreate the file correctly by copying and
pasting from the same file when it was showing display edits. This was a
clue to repeatability.

I've now established that if I toggle on 'display edits on screen' and then
toggle it off again, I get great chunks of missing text. Anyone had this
problem?

See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html
for tips on copying/pasting text on which Track Changes has been used.

Good document, but it doesn't appear to cover my problem!
