I can't believe I'm asking this question:

Where is Word 2002's help index?

If I press F1, a Help window comes up with only 6 "Help Topics"--
Accessibility features, Keyboard shortcuts, Creating a document,
Formatting, Using mail merge, and Collaborating on documents.

Since when does a tiny, insulting handful of absolutely random topics
comprise software functionality whatsoever?

As if that weren't enough, Microflot even precedes it with NON-help
stuff--"What's New", "Find Additional Products", and "Getting Help".
(Even THAT is listed last. And I don't want to find out about
"getting" help. I'm already *in* the Help window.)

At the risk of sounding like a moron (which I could well be):

Does Word 2002 have a help index? Where is it? Have I failed to
install Help?

Press F1.  Click on the Options icon on the toolbar near the top of the
Help window.  Click on Show Tabs.  Click on the Index tab.
