There doesn't seem to be much in the way of extensive discussion. You can look
at what turns up at
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=word+%22outline+view%22. For example,

may add a few bits of knowledge.
I've also checked a couple of the big books about Office, and they don't give
outline view any more space than the web articles do.
