Susan Barnhill was kind enough to tell me that one can set word up so
that it launches with the file the last session ended with. She
advised me to create a new shortcut incorporating the switch
winword /mfile1

The trouble is I don't know how to do what she told me to do. Can any
one help

Hi,

I'll try and help you with what you need but I'm rubbish at explaining
things!!

I will presume you know how to create a new shortcut icon (right click
on your desktop and select new, shortcut).

Once you do that, browse to your "Program Files" directory and then
into your "Microsoft Office" directory to locate Winword.exe. Select
that file as your shortcut. Once you've done that then you should right
click on the shortcut icon and edit the target field to something like

: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE" /mfile1. I'm

running Office 2003 so your command line will probably be different.
Just be sure to add the /mfile1 to the end and it should work fine.

hello

I tried your method and I couldn't get round it.

However I found that if you go to your .doc file in Explorer, right click on
Properties and create shortcut and then drag it onto the desktop you achieve
what you want a lot quicker.

I have Word2000

Here's how I would do it:

1. Right-click on the shortcut you use to start Word (on the Desktop, Start
Menu, Quick Launch bar) and choose Copy.

2. In the same place (or any of the others), right click and choose Paste
Shortcut.

3. Right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties.

4. On the Shortcut tab you will see a box that says "Target." In that box
will be a file path, probably enclosed in quotes. To the right of the quoted
path, add the /mfile1 switch.

5. OK out.

6. Use this shortcut when you want to start Word with the most recently used
file open.
