Hi, I've grown used to File New bringing up the new file dialog with the display of available templates. I installed Word 2003 recently and am growing annoyed with the new file pane or panel which gives lots of choices I don't want and lets me hunt for the option of displaying my templates. Sub MyFileNew () Application.Dialogs(wdDialogFileNew).Show End Sub I got around this with the procedure shown above (attaching it to a toolbar button) but I'm curious as to whether there is a way to turn off the display of this pane (or the other panes). In Word 2002, this instead opened the New Document task pane--not at all what I wanted. I found that the command I required was the FileNewDialog command from Tools | Customize | All Commands, which I would imagine will still work in Word 2003. Thank you Suzanne and Terry. I think I'll leave the File=>New menu command alone. I think I may yet find some use for the new document pane. Mostly, like you, I just want to get to the dialog. Then the pane just gets in the way. FWIW, when you have any task pane open, it's just one click to get to any of the others. For example, you can use the toolbar button to open the Styles and Formatting task pane, then the down arrow at the top of that pane to display the list of others from which you can select. -- Suzanne S. Charles I didn't like the Task Pane the first few times I ran XP, but I persevered with it and would not be without the TP open - permanently. I find it indispensable.
