I am currently using MS Office xp Pro on a Windows XP Pro machine.
In past versions of microsoft word when I would use the Open Folder icon on
the toolbar to open a document in the My Documents folder, when I would
start typing in the file name text box, Word would use autocomplete and
attempt to resolve the filename.  Now this only seems to work if my My
Documents folder is local.  Of course all my documents are store in my home
directory on the network server (as they have always been).  I would like to
regain this functionality.  Is there a tweak or a checkbox that I have
neglected to turn on or off.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Randy

Hi Randy

Try the following. File > Open. In the File name box, type say  memo*
and press Enter or Tab. The * acts as a wildcard and basically means
"anything". So searching for files named memo* will locate all the files
whose names begin with "memo", without regard for subsequent characters
in the filename.

You can create quite sophisticated searches very easily. So search for
say  *budget* would return all the letters and memos with "budget" in
the middle
of the name. Or you could search for for *budget, which would capture
file names ending in "budget".

Hope this helps.

Shauna:
Thanks for your reply.  Your suggestion does work, still the auto-resolution
/ auto-complete feature which works fine if the location of your My
Documents folder is local, and formerly to work fine with UNC paths in Word
2000 is sorely missed.  I was wondering if perchance the enabling of offline
files and folders would facilitate this feature?  Do you have any experience
with that issue.  Since the computers never leave the building offline files
and folders is not needed and is not enabled.
Thanks
Randy
