Hi

when you save a document as Web Page - the resulting html code contains an
enormous amount of unnecessary header code - just wondered whether this was
an option i could switch off

To a certain extent, you can, yes. Since you don't tell us which version of
Word you have, it's not possible to be too specific. But try looking under
Tools/OPtions/General/Web options.
