I'm learning Word 2002. I notice on a New document that there is a
paragraph looking icon to the right of the insertion marker. I haven't
been able to find any information on what it is telling me. As I move
the insertion marker around the blank sheet the icon disappears and
reappears depending on the location. Could you point me to where this
icon and its meaning is discussed?

TIA

Tom,
Go to Tools - options - on the edit tab way down under remove the checkmark
next to click and type (or whatever it is called) it is the last option of
the dialogue, and you should be alright.

Tom,
Look closely at the appearance of your cursor I, and move around, the
appearance will change with the place your mousecursor is moved to. For
instance move to the middle of your line and you will see that the little
icon is now below your mousecursor, double click and you will have a
centered paragraph. Move to the right close to the right margin and the
little icon will change and move to the left of the mousecursor I, double
click and the paragraph will be right aligned. So when this option is
activated you can quickly execute common tasks as centrering indenting and
so on.
Hope this explains better, how to turn it off was mentioned in my previous
mail.

Luc:

I appreciate the response. Once you know what the feature is called
"Click and Type?, it's easy to find in the index/book.
