Requesting Virus Scan, Word 2002, How do I stop?

Just installed Word 2002 and getting familiarized. I'd been using Word
97. When I open a document now it takes noticeably longer to open. I
get a splash screen I'd like to eliminate and then Word indicates that
is Requesting a Virus Scan in the lower left hand corner of the screen.
Where or how can I stop Word 2002 from requesting this virus scan?

TIA

If you're using Norton AntiVirus, disable the Office Plug-in.

Where is this Office Plug-in located? In Norton 2004? or Word? I just
loaded Word 2002 from Works Suite. Prior to this I was using Word 97
which was part of my Office 97 suite.  I don't ever remember
instituting an Office Plug-in for anti=virus.

I found it. It was in NAV under Options/antivirus/other/miscellaneous.
Thanks again.

It's always been there, but it "hooks into" only Office 2000 and above.
