Autocomplete lines

I am very uninformed about the Microsoft Word. Hopefully,
I will make sense enough of what I am trying to find out.
My system has Microsoft Word 97 installed.

On occasion, I save articles, quotes, etc., in a Word
document. To separate the items I save, I use dashes or an
underscore. Generally, I do not run the dashes or
underscore across the whole page. To my delight, for a
time at least, the Word program emboldened and completed
the line for me. I would hit enter and away
the "autocomplete" would go. Now, it doesn't.

Since I did not intentionally start the autocomplete, nor
attempt to disingage it, I am at a loss as to how to get
this function going again.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

tJp

It's an automatic border. For cause, cure, and prevention (or in this case
how to enable it), see

Try Tools-Autocorrect-Autoformat as you type-Borders. With this option
box checked, when I type --- and hit enter, Word puts in a solid line
across the page.

I'm using Word 2000 but I think it's same for Word 97.
