Upgraded to Word 97 using Windows 98. Now when I try to bold a paragragh
title (e.g. recipe title) Word automatically converts phrase from 'Normal' to
'Heading 1' with attendant bullet and 'Keep with next' format. Have tried
repeatedly to modify without success. I want to tell Word what and when I
want as headings and to apply my selected heading format. Help, please!

Tools > autocorrect > autoformat as you type. Uncheck just about everything
esp. define styles based on your formatting.
