There was a lot of rumbling in the beginning about BCM, how it's great,
new, category-killer, etc. It's a great entry for MS.

BUt the customization, speed, bugs- there was supposed to be a more hefty
patch update to move this product to compete directly with Act!, etc.

Now, there seems to be a massive lull in any advance of the under-powered
MS BCM.

Anybody have any sense whatsoever of what's in store for this product?

Thanks

Ed:

I feel the same way.

Since MS is generally pretty open about upcoming updates to their key
products, like Office and Windows, and since so far I've found *no*
information about a BCM update, I'm assuming that it is at least 6 months
away, it it is going to happen at all.  It seems to me that if they spruce up
the free BCM too much it could become, in some cases, a viable alternative to
the not-free Microsoft CRM.  So I can understand some hesitation on MS' part.

As for me, I've been using BCM for about a year, and can't live with its
limitations much longer.  I'll probably switch back to just plain OL,
although I'm taking a good look at Avidian's Prophet and TabTag.

Yes, Tabtag is free for single - making it well worth a look-see.  From what
I can tell, though, is that since it keeps its data in sql db, like BCM, it
won't currently synch to a PPC.  Apparently the next version of Windows CE
will have SQL burned into ROM - meaning there may be hope then.  For now, for
me, generic OL is still looking good...

So, what don't you like about tabtag?

it claims pda support on the web page, and all sorts of other good stuff
like fields, mail merges, stability et al.

nogood?

( the thing that amazes me is that all of the sql -based contact managers
use desktop msde 2000, which has a 2gig db size limit, whereas outlook
2003 has something like a 16 gig limit with its new unicode straucture,
or at least as far as i have learned...)

From their website:

"... Can I get my PDA to synchronize with TabTag folders?
This works well with third-party sync tools that allow you to customize
which Outlook folders to synchronize with your PDA."

The only third-party sync tool that I'm aware of that might work with a
Pocket PC is Intellisync.  Also, from reading Tabtag's website, it looks like
*all* the data is kept in the sql db - contacts, tasks, appointments,
journal.  So you need to be able to sync those as well - not just contacts.
I don't currently have a laptop, so as much PPC synch as possible is very
important for me.

Chapura has a couple of products for PalmOS devices that will sync contacts,
but I don't have a Palm device.

Overall, Tabtag looks like a decent product, especially for free.  I really
should download it and try it before I critique it any more...
