MS Office Forum / Outlook / Business Contact Manager / October 2006Cannot change password
I've installed BCM on my network based on some computers with windows 2000 amd some with windows XP. The database is on my server (with windows 2000), all the other computers are clients. Everything works fine for me except that now if I try to change the user password in windows XP I cannot grant access to the database. I've tried to change it form only from the client or even in the server. In Windows 2000 I change the pwd in the local computer, start outlook and a message tells me to change the remote password, I fill in the form with the old password and the new one; perfect, the password is changed even on the server. In Windows XP I follow the same procedure, but when I fill in the form proposed by Outlook, I receive another error saing that the password are not corrected. What can I do???? Is it something like the password does not meet the policy (not strong password, minimum password age is 1 day, etc?) You might want to check the password policy on your win2k server, and try using a strong password on your client side. If that still won't help, can you manually log into the server and change the user's password to be exactly the same as used on XP client? In fact if I change the password on the server (with windoss 2000) and on a computer with Windows 2000 I can have access to the BCM; if I cange the password on the server (with windows 2000) and on a computer with windows XP Outlook tells me that I cannot have access to the BCM database. This is very strange. The mechanism to change passwords via BCM is a convenience, but it sounds like some Xp security change keeps it from working. I used the server and client interfaces of sql. It seems that for an unknown reason they talk on differents ports. I just canged the port on the client side, canged tha password on the client and on the server and everything works.
