I have a small business with 7 employees and am thinking about switching from
GoldMine to BCM, however I am not sure how to deal with privacey issues. We
would have a shared database, however, some of my contact records, client
emails, documents, etc... would need to be kept private from employees. Can
records somehow be kept or "marked as private" to maintain some degree of
confidentiality with BCM? Does anyboby have any suggestions?

There's not a secure way in BCM to make records private. You can customize
a View in BCM or Outlook and filter the records so each person is only
looking at their contacts, but they could figure out a way to see other
records. For the kind of security you're wanting, you'd need to go to MS
CRM.
