Outlook 2003 (running on XP Pro): In my Calendar I view one day at a time
and have the small task bar calendars showing. When I want to make an
appointment for a future date I select the date from the Task Bar view. The
date correctly displays as the correct Day in the Day View however when I
double click a time slot or even right click and click 'New Appointment' a
new appointment ("Untitled Appointment") opens but it defaults to today's
date and time! Is that what is meant to happen? I assumed the chosen date
and time would be displayed! I am sure it used to in Outlook XP. Any advice
would be most welcome..

Opening a new appointment item always defaults to the current date.  It has
always done this.

After furious head scratching, Steve asked:

Thanks for the info however I have to say that it seems very strange that I
scroll to a future date and click a future time and it still defaults back
to the current date & time.
I make appointments for future dates not for current time and current date!
Anyway, many thanks for the reply.........
