OK. Since there is no profesional response from the MS people, I decided to
post a note about my "fix".
I read nearly all posts about this problem, and I found out what was wrong
(at least
in my case): if you change time zones in any ways, eg. by installing some
software
or clenign your system, etc, your OL may not "understand" your time zone
which you ended up with. So, it cannot understand the date as well, and so it
refuses to save appointments.
Once I corrected the time zones problem + needed to reinstall the whole
office -
my OL works again fine.
So, please have a look at your time zones and you may find the solution to
your
nightmares there.
Good luck, and thank you to all the people who cared enough to share their
experience with MS soft at this forum.

PS: I hope there are no hard feelings Milly, but re-booting cannot be the
universal answer to all PC problems.
I am a savvy computer user, not a programmer. I thank you, Magic, for your
suggestion. I will try it. I am quite peeved with microsoft because when
Outlook 2003 was installed it was the result of an "automated update". It
gave me no indication that I would not be able to save items in my calendar.
I created a new folder for a new calendar and it saved my items. But, with a
newly created calendar, you cannot share your calendar on the internet. I
have been working on this problem for days. It seems that Microsoft people
cannot even give a solution to the problem. It is clearly a BUG in the
program that needs to be repaired. I hope that Milly will at least pass this
problem on to people who know what to do with it.

My Refusal to Save Problem Saved.
I have a new HP Pavilion computer that is a few months old on which the
Outlook 2003 trial period was expiring. I bought a separate Outlook 2003
program and ran install which automatically asked if I wanted to delete my
old version, which I did. Voila, the old calendar data was there without
needing to copy the old Outlook. pst data file (that I had saved in an
unrlelated directory) into the proper subdirectory. However, when I tried to
save a new entry into my calendar I go the following error message:
“The item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or
moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it to
the default folder for the item?”
When I choose “save to the default folder . . .” I get another error message
which read: “The message interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook.”
Restarting Outlook did not help. Reinstalling Outlook does not help.
Uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling Outlook did not help. Deleting the
file Outlook.PST and uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling without the former
PST file resulted in Outlook not running. Deleting the file Outlook.PST and
uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling and copying the old PST file back to
the proper location resulted in the same problem all over again.
Hours later: I uninstalled Outlook 2003 using the Windows uninstall rather
than the "auto" unintall on the new disk. I deleted the Outlook.Pst file
after copying it to a safe place. Then I uninstalled the entire trial
version of Office. I reinstalled the new Outlook 2003 and copied over the
saved Outlook.Pst file. Now calendar works fine and I have my old entries.
