What is the best practice for using a Shared Calendar in Outlook 2003 to plan
multiple processes or long-term projects which all overlap across weeks and
months?

In other words, is there a "process view" or some other ideal way to
elucidate this kind of overlapping, long-term project-based information in an
Outlook 2003 shared calendar?

Microsoft Project is much more suited to this type of situation.  Outlook is
a PIM, what you need is project management software, either Project or some
other program.
