There are certain times during the day, when I need to carry out the daily
routine tasks, like checking emails, have lunch etc, for which i cannot mark
a daily recurring appointent.  If I dont do that, others in the office see my
time as available and try to block it by sending meeting requests.  I should
be able to mark certain time slots where it does not let others see me as
available.  I need something like a PRIVATE time.

Make a recurring daily appointment (exclude weekends) and mark it private.
Do this for the times (such as lunch or breaks) when you know you want to
not be scheduled.  Set your planner options to automatically decline
conflicting appointments.
