Reply: Office 2003, don't know what version of exchange. Note: my husband,
who is on the same exchange server, does not have this problem.
The reason I asked about the Exchange version is that the server controls the behavior of meeting requests that you send through it. Exchange 5.5. does not convert them into iCalendar items. Exchange 2000 and 2003 do. Have you checked to see what meeting requests that you send look like to the recipient? What about the ones your husband sends?

Sue -
I looked it up, we are on Exchange 2003. I realized there was an issue,
because when my husband sent a meeting request to someone outside our
network, they got an outlook calendar item, with accept and decline buttons,
but when I sent a meeting request to someone outside the network, it didn't
appear as a calendar item, but rather an email message with some text about
the time and date. It also had no accept and decline buttons. When I tried
to diagnose what was different, I noticed that he had the "send as icalendar
item" checked, and I did not have the ability to check it or uncheck it, it
was grayed out. I then followed microsoft's directions to restore original
settings under options/ mail format/ but nothing happened.

Does your husband have just the Exchange account in his mail profile or also a POP or IMAP account?

He has both an IMAP account and a POP account in his mail profile. I don't
have either.

Can you check whether the meeting request that he sent that showed up as iCal were sent with the Exchange account or the other accounts?

HI. It was sent with the Exchange account - it's the default.
