Cannot open the calendar - asks me to enter valid date and time

When I try to open the calendar, it shows the message:
cannot open folder.  please enter valid time and date.
Half of the menu options do not show up.
I think a setting was changed, but I don't know what to change.
Has anybody seen a similar message?

No, what version of Outlook are you using?  Have you tried detect and repair
from any Office program's Help menu?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head-scratching, Chiape asked this group:
