I'd like to have the Outlook calendar show up on my desktop so that it is
readily available for viewing. Perhaps there could be different sizes to
choose from - small, med, or large - positioned in the top right hand corner
or wherever you want.

Try Desklook as well as Digidashlive. Or even Desktop Sidebar. There are a
number of utilities that will display your Outlook calendar on the desktop.
Use http://www.google.com to find them.
